"Decent work, forced labour, or everyday abuses" Webinar Replay
23 juin 2026
This webinar explores concepts such as decent work, forced labour, exploitation, and trafficking, examining their historical and political contexts and discussing when, why, and whether the use of precise definitions is important.
Guest speakers also shared examples of how these terms apply in practice in Canada and elsewhere, and how there exists a vast array of “everyday abuses” and labour rights violations—enabled by the normal functioning of Canada’s labour and migration systems—that sits between “decent work” and the extreme of human trafficking.
Moderators:
- Borislav Gerasimov, Research Lead, GAATW Canada
- Julie Murray, Research Assistant, GAATW Canada
Guest Speakers:
- Dr. Ann de Shalit, Trent University, Canada
- Dr. Joel Quirk, University of Witwatersrand, South Africa
